Mill development a step closer

Temora residents can now have their say on a development application for the upcoming boutique brewery at Pardey’s Flour Mill.

The application details plans to transform the historical Temora landmark into a restaurant brewery.

Initially the mill was also set to contain 14 hotel rooms but this has since been removed from the plans.

Temora Shire Council is exhibiting the project online and in office until January 6.
Dubbed the ‘Great Southern Brewery’ as a play on the Great Northern Brewing Co, owner Adam Perry reached a settlement with BFB to purchase the block on Polaris Street last year.

A large car park opposite the site on Polaris Street is also included in the application.

If approved, and depending on consent conditions, Mr Perry anticipates the next stage will be working on detailed engineering and construction drawings.

“We will then submit the required plans and details to Council to seek a construction certificate.

“The engineering will be a slow process unfortunately, and so it could be many months before we get to the point of work beginning on site,” Mr Perry said.

“This wonderful old building has thrown up a few unexpected challenges that we need to work through, but we remain as determined and committed as ever.”

If the application is successful with council, he anticipates it could still take some years before the doors open.

“I imagine we will spend at least six months working through detailed designs and obtaining a construction certificate.

“It will then take several more months to appoint a contractor. These days the lead-time for many contractors can stretch beyond 12 months and the build time could be just as long.

“I expect it will be at least two years or so before we pour the first glass of cold beer,” Mr Perry said.

He is encouraging everyone to have a say on the exciting new venture.

“The community providing comments, positive or negative, is an important part of the approval process. The building has important historical significance which cannot be over- looked,” he said.

Once submissions close, its expected council will evaluate whether to approve the project in an ordinary meeting early next year.
