NYE Pool party & fireworks

More than 800 people flocked to the Temora Swimming Pool last Saturday for the New Year’s Eve Party.

Families and friends from around the district enjoyed the opportunity to try out the newly completed $2.2 million swimming pool.

Also popular was the Temora Twister waterslide which

saw scores of youngsters lined up to test it out.

As well, the diving board, water park and toddler play area were also a hive of activity as the temperature reached a balmy 31 degrees.

Food was plentiful  and groups of people took to the shaded parts of the grounds to enjoy some live music and outdoor games.

Temora Events Program Coordinator, Robyn Buerckner, counted 810 ticket registrations and said there were even people from overseas present who were spending time with loved ones in Temora for the holidays.

“I’d say some of the tickets would have just been for the fireworks, but I also think the weather encouraged people to come out and enjoy,” Ms Buerckner said.

“The pool staff were very happy with the numbers and there were no major problems. It was a great opportunity for people to enjoy the upgraded pool.

“I did a walk around handing out glow sticks and mosquito repellent and I heard fantastic feedback from everyone along the way. As well as locals, there were plenty of people from out of town, including some international travellers. They were very impressed by what was on offer and they thanked the council and organisers for putting on such a great show.

“There weren’t a lot of take away shops open on New Year’s Eve so this gave families the option to have dinner at the pool before the fireworks.”

The fireworks display, which began around quarter to nine and lasted some 20 minutes, was undoubtedly the highlight of the night.

“They were provided by a company in the ACT who always do a really professional job. We had also hired them for T-LIGHT earlier in the year,” Ms Buerckner said.

“I wish to thank the Pool Manager, Judy Mannion, and her staff, as well as Steve Block who assisted with crowd management and Temora Shire Council staff. They all did a wonderful job of keeping everyone safe and ensuring everyone had a great time.”

Meanwhile, those who missed out on the NYE party can rest assured they will have the opportunity to attend a similar event in the coming weeks.

“The Australia Day Pool Party is going to be very similar but without fireworks. There will be more games and activities for kids, and it will start at 3pm and run until 9pm. There will also be free entry to the pool and the water slide,” Ms Buerckner said.
