The application period for the Temora District Education Fund (TDEF) financial assistance grants for 2027 has reached the halfway mark with applications closing on 31 October. Since the program was established in 2008 it has provided financial support for 440 young people from the Temora Shire with more than $700,000 in grants, matching grants and other forms of assistance to help them realise their post high school educational, vocational and training aspirations. The 2026 round of endowments assisted 34 Temora Shire young people with a total of $45,500 in grants. To be eligible the student must be aged between 16 and 25 years of age, live or have attended school in the Temora footprint, demonstrate a need for the grant and show a high level of determination to achieve their educational goal. The grants are not restricted to tertiary studies and can be used for those undertaking apprenticeships, traineeships, cadetships, certificate level studies as well as diplomas and degrees. Expenses such as textbooks, travel, laptops, accommodation, tools and uniforms can be covered for reimbursement. TDEF President, Temor Shire Council mayor Rick Firman said the board are ‘very proud’ of the work they are doing, supporting local school leavers to help achieve their respective career goals.
