Temora’s dads are being encour aged to step into the spotlight as nominations open for the 2026 Community Sports Dad of the Year Award. The national initiative, which is free to enter, recognises fathers and father figures who help keep grassroots sport thriving in re gional areas such as Temora. Many local dads are involved in local sport in a variety of ways, such as early morning training runs, weekend canteen shifts, coaching, fundraising and countless hours behind the wheel driving children to sporting events. Rugby league, rugby union, AFL, netball, soccer and cricket play a major role in the Temora sporting community. Organisers say the award is an opportunity to recognise the vol unteers who often work behind the scenes without seeking recognition. Community Sports Dad of the Year founder, Paul Masluk, said the award was created to recognise the people whose contribution to local sport often goes mostly unnoticed. “Community sport relies on the people who keep turning up,” Mr Masluk said. “They coach, encourage kids, organise events and take on all the little jobs that are not always seen. “This award is our chance to recognise those dads and say thank you for what they give to their clubs, their families and the next generation.” Socceroos goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne has been named the 2026 Community Sports Dad of the Year Ambassador. As a father, Redmayne said he was well aware of how community sport can benefit children. “It’s not just about learning the game – it’s about building confi dence, friendships and creating memories that last a lifetime,” Redmayne said. “Behind every team are mums, dads and volunteers who give up countless hours to make those experiences possible. “This award is a chance to recognise the dads who make such a big difference to their clubs and local communities. “If you know a dad who’s always there for the kids and never asks for anything in return, I’d encourage you to nominate him.” The award is supported by Philips Water and this year’s winning father will receive a Philips Reverse Osmosis Water Station valued at $1,299, while the winner’s sporting club will receive a $5,000 Rebel Sport voucher for new clothing or equipment. The person who submits the winning nomination will also re ceive a Philips Multigroom 7000 grooming kit valued at $229. Temora locals can nominate a deserving sporting dad in 100 words or less at www.sportsdads. com.au/community until 27 August. The winner will be announced ahead of Father’s Day on Sunday 6 September.
