Children’s pre-school activity group Mainly Music celebrated 15 years in Temora last Friday, 14 August, with all the families enjoying birthday decorations and a birthday cake. First started in New Zealand in 1990 the program is aimed at babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers featuring interactive musical sessions, morning tea, a play session and a farewell. Each mainly music group is convened by a church or Christian school whose volunteer team is dedicated to providing a fun and educational sessions. The group meets each Friday at 9.30am and runs for about two hours at the St Paul’s Anglican Church. Facilitator, Sue Pike, has been involved virtually from day one, she started off bringing her grandchildren along and then joined the team 12 months later. Ms Pike said that it is an opportunity for mum’s, dad’s and carers to interact with their children as there are lots of actions that go along with the songs. “The actions are quite a handy, skilful way of learning, teaching the children how to take instructions, preparing them for school plus it helps the brain with the right and the left side as well as developing motor skills,” she said. “Each week our normal attendance would be probably between 25 or 30 families and that could take us up to 35 to 40 children, but we average about 35 children each week. “I really love it and it is a beautiful ministry.”
