Tomorrow night, Friday 4 September the question of What is possible when you grow up in a small regional town? Will be explored at the Temora High School and Beyond community event to be held at the Temora Bowling Club. Getting underway at 7pm the free community event, that is suitable for all ages, will feature four Temora High School (THS) alumni to share their career journeys, their choices and challenges along the way. It will offer the chance to hear an engaging panel of former Temora High School students who have taken very different career paths. This year’s event will once again be chaired by orthopaedic surgeon and THS alumnus Dr Brett Fritsch, who has supported Temora High School and Beyond since its inception more than 10 years ago. There will be four panelists that are all THS alumni, and they will talk about their journey, followed by a question-and-answer session that participants can participate. While the event has broad appeal, young people in particular are encouraged to come along - whether they are just starting their career journey, are studying, have a clear sense of their future career path or if they have no idea. Each panelist grew up in Temora and attended Temora High School, so they have experienced many of the same opportunities, limitations and challenges that young people in a regional community can experience. Event organiser Sheree Elwin said that the thing that makes this event special is that the speakers are home grown. “They have walked in the shoes of those who live in our town,” Ms Elwin said. “They know what it is like to grow up in a regional community, to leave school not knowing where life will take them, to face challenges along the way and jump in when opportunities present themselves. “I would encourage people- especially parents with young adults- to think beyond the job title they see in front of each speaker and just come along listen to the speakers. “There is something in these stories for everyone, and you never know which part of someone’s journey might spark an idea for your own, regardless of your stage of life.” The panelists are: Lloyd Galloway Operations Coordinator, Airlink Lloyd’s journey has moved through emergency services and aviation, after starting out with a range of local jobs and volunteering while at school. His career has included emergency service work, aviation emergency service roles, community transport and aviation operations management, as well as a deployment to the Canadian bushfires. He can offer insight into aviation, airports, transport and logistics, travel, business, customer service, operations and management. Blake Hingerty Fitter / Machinist, Goldenfields Water Blake followed a practical and technical pathway after school, completing a Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade and a Certificate IV in Engineering – Welding. He has worked across mechanical maintenance and now combines his Goldenfields Water role with part-time work as a Fire and Rescue NSW firefighter. His experience connects to trades, apprenticeships, mechanical engineering, manufacturing, water and utilities, fabrication and technical problem-solving. Hannah Mahon Paramedic, NSW Ambulance Hannah’s pathway has taken her from Temora High School to paramedicine in London and NSW. Her experience includes working overseas and working in health care during the COVID-19 pandemic. She brings insight into health and medicine, emergency services, nursing and allied health, public safety, community services, leadership and teamwork. Dr. Sarah Preston Senior Lecturer, Animal Health & Co-founder of SwabTec Sarah’s interest in animals and agriculture began while growing up on her family’s farm near Temora. She went on to complete a Bachelor of Science and PhD in Immunology and Parasitology, followed by research and university teaching in veterinary and animal sciences. In 2025 she co-founded SwabTec to translate scientific research into practical tools for livestock producers. Her pathway connects science, animal health, biotechnology, research, agriculture, teaching, entrepreneurship and innovation. Temora High School and Beyond is a unique community event, where we come together to celebrate some of the many success stories to come from out Temora Shire.
