No rights no justice, a call to the world

A call to governments, organisations and communities to build a fairer and more peaceful world. Human rights are the basic rights of every human being. Every person deserves to live with dignity, freedom, equality and respect, regardless of nationality, religion, colour, language, gender or financial position. Protecting human rights is not only the responsibility of governments or international organisations. It is a shared responsibility involving public institutions, community leaders, schools, media organisations, families and ordinary citizens. As a human rights observer and activist associated with the Pakistan International Human Rights Organisation in Australia, I believe that building a better society begins with understanding, kindness, fairness and respect for others. My message to governments, public institutions, human rights organisations and communities around the world is simple: protect human dignity, promote equality and make sure that no person is left behind. The role of governments and public institutions Governments have an important responsibility to protect the fundamental rights of their people. Laws and public services should support fairness, safety, equality and access to justice. Public institutions should treat every person with respect and provide services without unfair discrimination. People should be able to raise concerns, report mistreatment and seek assistance without fear. Government departments, police services, courts, schools and healthcare institutions all have important roles in protecting human rights. Authorities should listen to public concerns, investigate complaints fairly and take suitable action when rights are violated. Clear information about available services and complaint procedures should be accessible to everyone. I encourage governments to continue improving public awareness programmes and ensuring that people understand their rights and responsibilities. A strong society is one where people trust their institutions, feel safe asking for help and believe they will receive fair treatment. Human Rights Organisations Must Lead Through Action Human rights organisations play an important role in educating the public, supporting vulnerable people and raising awareness about injustice. Their work should continue throughout the year, not only during international awareness events. Organisations can arrange community meetings, educational workshops, school programmes and public information campaigns. They can also work with local councils, journalists, volunteers and community groups to reach people who need support. Special attention should be given to children, women, older people, people with disabilities, refugees, migrants and disadvantaged communities who may face additional barriers when seeking assistance. Human rights organisations should provide accurate information, respect people's privacy and guide those who need help towards appropriate services. I appeal to all concerned organisations to strengthen cooperation and turn their commitments into practical action. Even a small community programme can make a positive difference when it helps people understand their rights and access support. The Importance of Education and Public Awareness Education is one of the strongest tools for protecting human rights. Many problems can be prevented when people understand the importance of equality, respect, freedom and responsibility. Schools and colleges should encourage students to respect different cultures, reject bullying and understand that every person deserves fair treatment. Parents can teach children kindness, honesty and respect from an early age. Community and religious leaders can encourage peaceful relationships and mutual understanding. The media also has a valuable role in spreading awareness. Newspapers, television, radio and digital platforms can share useful information, highlight community concerns and explain how people can seek help. Journalists should report responsibly, check facts and give fair attention to human rights issues. When people receive correct information, they are better prepared to recognise unfair treatment, support others and contribute to positive change. Protecting Women, Children and Vulnerable People Every child deserves safety, education, care and the opportunity to develop. Every woman deserves respect, equal opportunities and protection from violence and abuse. No person should be forced to suffer in silence because of fear, poverty or a lack of information. Governments, community organisations and public institutions should work together to prevent domestic violence, child abuse, exploitation and discrimination. People experiencing abuse should have access to suitable support, legal information and protection. We must also remember people who are living with disabilities, facing financial hardship or experiencing social isolation. They deserve opportunities to participate fully in community life. A caring society is not measured only by its wealth or development. It is also measured by how it treats people who need help and protection. Australia, Pakistan and the Global Community Communities in Australia, Pakistan and other countries can make a positive contribution by promoting respect, understanding and equal treatment. In multicultural societies, people from different backgrounds should be encouraged to live together peacefully and learn from one another. Community organisations and volunteers can help by supporting people in need, sharing information and building relationships between different groups. As a human rights activist in Australia, I encourage greater cooperation between government institutions, civil society organisations and community leaders to promote awareness and protect human dignity. International cooperation is also important because human rights concerns can cross national borders. Sharing knowledge, learning from successful programmes and supporting international human rights standards can help strengthen protection for everyone. A Positive Message to the World My appeal to governments, public institutions, human rights organisations, community leaders and citizens is to make human rights a daily priority. We should not wait for a special occasion to show respect, help someone in need or speak against discrimination. Every person can contribute through simple actions: treating others fairly, listening to people who feel ignored, supporting vulnerable individuals and reporting serious concerns through appropriate channels. Let us build communities where children feel safe, women are respected, older people are valued, and everyone has an opportunity to live with dignity. Human rights are not just words written in documents. They are values that must be reflected in our actions, our institutions and our daily lives. Together, we can build a world where fairness replaces discrimination, understanding replaces hatred and cooperation creates stronger communities. Protecting human rights is everyone's responsibility. Let us work together for dignity, equality, justice and peace.
