Temora Recreation Ground has suffered more than $4000 in damage after two incidents in the early hours of Sunday 18 October, with vehicles involved in both incidents. The first occurred at approximately 1.30am where a car was reported to be doing burnouts on the playing service of the sporting field that is the home ground of the Temora Tuskers rugby union team. Police have identified the vehicle and spoken to the owner with charges expected to be laid in relation to the incident. In the second instance, which occurred at approximately 4am, an out-of-control vehicle crashed through a boundary fence and hit two metal seats on the sidelines of the oval before coming to rest on the playing field. It is alleged that a vehicle was travelling along Crowley Street without headlights and lost control negotiating the corner into Britannia Street. Police suspect that the driver was intoxicated and investigations are continuing with charges of negligent driving and drink-driving. “Any act of senseless vandalism is appalling, and I am very pleased that the police have been very proactive in finding the culprits,” Temora Shire Council mayor Rick Firman said. “Number one, we are pleased that nobody has been hurt, either those that were involved in those instances or others. But again, vandalism of any kind is appalling. “It obviously comes at a cost. “I would encourage that if anyone sees any vandalism, they report it so the police can go through and do their job to ensure that they are dealt with to the, quite frankly, to the fullest extent of the law. “That’s community property and therefore, council has to deal with that and find the funds to make the appropriate repairs.”
