The last weekend of September is racing towards us, with the Temora Show Society preparing to hold its 139th Show on Saturday, 26 September. The Society would like to sincerely thank this year’s sponsors, as well as the many individuals and businesses that donate trophies, prizes and other support. Their generosity helps make the Temora Show possible. Visitors can look forward to the regular favourites of the Show, including the Poultry Show and the wonderful displays of arts, crafts, cooking and produce inside the Agricultural Pavilion. The Tractor Pull and Truck Show will also return and are always popular drawcards. Belle and Beau of the Show will once again be held, with the age limit for Beau of the Show extended to 12 years this year. The winners of the Rural Young Woman competition will be announced during the Official Opening Ceremony. We are delighted to welcome Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke MP and Temora Shire Mayor Rick Firman as part of the ceremony. Free laser tag will be one of this year’s major attractions. Coming to Temora from Canberra, it promises to be a fun activity for people of all ages and will operate throughout the day. Working-dog demonstrations will also take place in the grassed area near the laser tag, giving visitors an opportunity to see these skilled dogs and their handlers in action. A new Kids Zone has been created by members of the Show committee, offering a range of free activities for children. These will include potting plants, hair braiding, craft activities, colouring-in and a silent disco. Despite rising costs, gate admission has remained unchanged for many years and will again be just $15 for adults and $5 for students under 16. Preparations are well underway inside the Agricultural Pavilion. The pavilion is being swept, vacuumed and mopped before a special blend of oils is applied to help preserve its floor, which is more than 60 years old. Local community groups and schools have also been invited to create displays around the pavilion walls. Karen Pellow, Anne Schubert and their team have revised the pavilion competition schedule, restoring a number of classes that had been reduced or removed over the years. This includes an expanded selection of indoor and outdoor potted-plant classes. Trade stall coordinator Ann Brace has already received strong interest from market and trade stallholders, although bookings are still being accepted. Application forms can be found on the Temora Show website. The Main Stage will be bustling throughout the day with local performers, including singers, dancers and members of the World Shimjang Taekwondo Academy. This year’s headline entertainment will be the Lachie Cossor Band, and visitors can also enjoy a Vintage and Second-hand Fashion Show. The Main Bar will be operated by the Railway Hotel, and the Steak Bar will be operated by Temora’s Ribbon Run. Football fans will not need to miss the action either, with the game being shown at the Bar. The day will finish on a high, with a spectacular fireworks display lighting up the Temora night sky at 8pm. With traditional Show favourites, new attractions, free children’s activities and entertainment throughout the day, the 139th Temora Show promises something for every member of the family.
