The Bundawarrah Centre was filled with artists, sponsors, supporters and art enthusiasts on Friday evening as the winners of the 2026 Temora Art Prize were announced, celebrating the remarkable creative talent found throughout Temora Shire and the wider region. This year's exhibition attracted a diverse collection of works across painting, drawing, pottery, and sculpture, showcasing both emerging and established artists. Judged by Ashleigh Baxter, Executive Director of Eastern Riverina Arts, and Sarah Keane, Communications and Engagement Coordinator at Eastern Riverina Arts, the exhibition highlighted the depth of artistic talent in regional communities. Temora Shire Council's Manager Cultural and Visitor Services, Lauren Carr, said the exhibition had exceeded expectations. "The quality of entries this year was outstanding and the feedback from artists, visitors and judges has been overwhelmingly positive," Ms Carr said. "What makes the Temora Art Prize so special is that it brings people together. “It celebrates creativity, provides artists with a platform to share their work, and creates opportunities for our community to connect through art. "For many artists, exhibiting their work takes courage. We're incredibly proud to provide a space where both emerging and experienced artists can showcase their talents and be recognised for their achievements." One of the highlights of the evening was the success of young artist Henry Reardon, whose portrait Trevor won the Junior Prize. Judges described the work as "very contemporary" and praised the artist's fearless use of colour and ability to capture the familiar charm of a beloved companion. The exhibition's highest honour, the Temora Shire Council Major Prize, was awarded to Tracey Heinrich for Eli Emu. The judges commended the work's technical skill, charming character and impressive use of colour, noting the way the artist's marks behaved "like feathers". Temora Arts Centre Advisory Committee Chair Bob Brabin said the exhibition reflected the strength of the local arts community. "The display this year is outstanding. The gallery is filled with exceptional work, and it has been wonderful to see so many locals and visitors enjoying the talent on display," said Mr Brabin. "The Art Prize continues to showcase the creativity, dedication and skill of artists across our region. Congratulations to every artist who took the time to create and enter their work. The inaugural People's Choice Award, sponsored by SWSbank with a $500 prize, was awarded to Bev Oakford for Down on the Farm. The popular new award encouraged visitors to engage directly with the exhibition by voting for their favourite artwork. Ms Carr thanked the many businesses, volunteers and community members whose support made the event possible. "The Temora Art Prize is truly a community effort. We are incredibly grateful to our sponsors, volunteers, staff, artists, judges and visitors whose support helps ensure this event continues to thrive,” she said. "Arts and culture play an important role in making Temora a vibrant and connected community, and we're proud to celebrate that through events like the Temora Art Prize." The 2026 Temora Art Prize remains on display at the Bundawarrah Centre until 11 November, providing residents and visitors with the opportunity to experience the award-winning artworks and discover the diverse creative talent of the region.
