The Temora Kangaroos Australian football seniors’ team prevailed by just eight points in another thrilling Farrer League encounter against the North Wagga Saints last Saturday. The Kangaroos 7.9 (51) defeated the Saints 6.7 (43) in their round 13 away game at McPherson Oval. The southern end of the ground was flooded and water had to be pumped away before the game could go ahead. The heavy ground evened up the contest, slightly favouring the Kangaroos. In a low-scoring first quarter, the Kangaroos failed to kick a single goal, but managed two behinds, while the Saints opened their account with two goals and two behinds to take a 12-point lead into the start of the second quarter. The Kangaroos’ fortunes changed as they outscored their opponents in the second quarter to take a slender one-point lead into halftime. After the restart, the Kangaroos added another four goals to their tally to extend their lead to 11 points with one quarter remaining. Goalless again in the final quarter, the Kangaroos kicked four behinds, but it was enough to hold on to secure another victory and keep them in a three-way tie for third place on the ladder. The Kangaroos’ goal kickers included Lachlan Robertson (2) and one each for Lachlan Leary, Rhys Leary, Jack Cullen, Abraham Wooden and Dean Ross. Their best players were Lachlan Leary, Liam Sinclair, Abraham Wooden, Rhys Leary, Dean Ross and Blake Basham. In round 14, the Kangaroos will host the Barellan Two Blues at Nixon Park on Saturday. The bounce-up for the seniors is at 2.10pm, the reserves at 12.10pm and the Under 18.5s will have a bye.
