The Temora Kangaroos Australian football seniors’ team sits in fourth place on the Farrer League ladder despite losing by 69 points against the East Wagga Kooringal Hawks last Saturday. The Kangaroos 8.3 (51) lost to the Hawks 19.6 (120) in their home game at Nixon Park. Kicking two goals in the opening quarter, the Kangaroos were outmuscled, with the Hawks booting six goals and three behind’s to take a handy 27-point lead into the second quarter. The game started to slip away for the Kangaroos as the Hawks added another six goals to head into the main break leading by 43 points. After the restart, the Kangaroos could only manage to kick a single goal and one behind, while the Hawks extended their lead to 55 points with one quarter left to play. The final quarter proved to be too much of a challenge for the Kangaroos to produce an unlikely comeback. The Kangaroos’ goal kickers included Will Ford (2), James Godde (2), Daylen Coleman (2) and one each for Lachlan Leary and Bayley Blackwell. Their best players were Liam Sinclair, Dean Ross, Daylen Coleman, Joseph Morton and Bayley Blackwell. Meanwhile, the Kangaroos’ reserves 10.6 (66) recorded three straight wins, beating the Hawks 4.4 (28) by 38 points. At the end of a low-scoring opening quarter, the Kangaroos held a slim five-point lead. Rallying in the second quarter, the Kangaroos added another three goals to go to halftime with a 17-point lead. After the restart, in an evenly-matched third quarter, the Kangaroos extended their lead to 20 points heading into the final quarter. Their defence was resolute, restricting the Hawks to a single behind, while the Kangaroos kicked three goals and a behind to secure the competition points and cement third place on the ladder. The reserves’ goal kickers included Matt Harpley (3) and one each for Jackson Macauley, Harvey Holt, Edward Oliver, Callum Derrick, Shaun Regan, Nic McRae and Lachlan Blackwell.
