The Temora Kangaroos Australian football seniors’ team has moved into second place on the Farrer League ladder following a 39-point win against the Coleambally Blues last Saturday. The Kangaroos 12.14 (86) defeated the Blues 6.11 (47) in their Farrer League away game at the Coleambally Sports Grounds. At the end of a tight opening quarter, the Kangaroos trailed by five points, but the margin could have been larger if the Blues were more accurate in front of the goalposts with their nine scoring shots. The Kangaroos made amends in the second quarter and restricted the Blues to just a single behind while they booted four goals and five behinds to take a 23-point halftime lead. After the restart, the Kangaroos were slightly outscored, but still held a handy three-goal lead heading into the fourth quarter. Blowing out the scoreline in the final quarter, the Kangaroos kicked another four goals and five behinds to improve their percentage rate and move up one place on the ladder. The Kangaroos’ goal kickers included Riley Hubbard (5), Lachlan Leary (3) and one each for Abraham Wooden, Riley Derrick, Charlie Lowes and Nick Holt. Their best players were Lachlan Leary, Riley Hubbard, Blake Basham, Joseph Morton, Abraham Wooden and Bayley Blackwell. Meanwhile, the Kangaroos reserves 16.15 (111) beat the Blues 2.2 (14). The Kangaroos raced away to a 27-point lead at the end of the opening quarter after kicking five goals and three behinds. Steadily moving through the gears, the Kangaroos piled on the points in the following three quarters to record a convincing win and stay on track for a finals berth. The Kangaroos’ goal kickers included Joshua Breust (4), Simon Quinn (4), Jacob Wooden (3), Callum Derrick (2), Lachlan Blackwell (2) and one for Jonte Reid. Their best players were Bailey Robinson, Simon Quinn, Rob Grant, Jacob Wooden, Angus Cockfield and Joshua Breust. The Under 18.5s Kangaroos 6.8 (44) lost against the Blues 14.7 (91). The teenage Kangaroos failed to score a single point in the first quarter, allowing the Blues to kick five goals and four behinds to race away to a handy 34-point lead. The Kangaroos booted their first goal of the game in the second quarter, but the Blues had extended their lead to 43 points as the teams headed into the main break. The game slipped further away for the Kangaroos after the restart as they allowed the Blues to forge further ahead on the scoreboard. Chasing a 55-point deficit in the final quarter, the Kangaroos had their most productive quarter, kicking four goals and two behinds as they outscored their opponents, but it was too little, too late as the Blues won comfortably in the end.
