Ariah Park Golf Ten eager golfers turned up to play for the Ambrose off the ladies’ tees with the winners receiving the major prize of a brand-new golf bank out of the lost and found basket. “Woppee” Robbo turned up with another new “Temu” shirt with his favourite saying printed on the back – (I Won’t Be Back) but alas he does front up and whinges about the flies, bare ground, fast sand greens, wind, heat, cold, did I mention flies. He sounds like a Pommy, not a Scotsman, but we love him dearly and his presumptuous attack on our wonderful golf club. What would you be doing Robbo, on a Saturday arvo, if not trying your hand at golf and all that goes with it my friend – and by the way your Pommy mate the Colonel will be back from his world tour so you can both whinge together okay, and your golf just might improve Those shots on the eight par three hole were terrible – bloody awful in fact and you claim it as your favourite hole – even off the men’s tees you were a complete controversial, fluttery, traumatic, weakling. At three attempts – failure to get on the dance floor, after all your build up we had a great laugh at your expense (I Won’t Be Back – yeah yeah). Poor Zac must have run over a--- well you know what I mean as he played one of his finest games of the year but just couldn’t buy a putt. His drives were his best so far – out driving myself and Robbo a few times but chipping well less said about that. But he did play well – drank Coke all day – maybe that’s the go Zac. No booze while playing. Camo was impressed with your game. The favourites for the day’s prize were dismal to say the least. They also talked themselves up before hitting off and with a handy handicap to boot – but like Robbo they faulted – not as bad as Robbo but some shoddy play. Novice ground strokes and some profanity thrown in, they threw the towel in halfway round and conceded defeat. So Perko and Rocky – maybe team up with Zac and Robbo next week for a golfing lesson and a lesson on etiquette by Robbo and putting lessons by Zac. Now the old senior citizen as they call him (Barry that is) grabbed the chance to play with his two little helpers in Maree and Merrill and of course Mr Pike. Now this team of four were going to play serious, no misbehaviour from any of this mob while Barry was in charge. So, Maree and John were both instructed to be gentle with the profanities and loud cheering – well that didn’t work. But the back firing Russian tank of a golf cart did seem to stabilise itself – and proceeded to perform okay this week. But he could still hear Maree cheering as a birdie putt landed or was that cheering at John Pike’s misfortune – who knows, but they were having the time of their lives out there. A word of warning to cart drivers, there are plenty of lizards on the fairways so just be aware of them and give them some space. Robbo would love to nurse one for a few holes, not, the man is afraid of the reptiles as is Maree. So anyway, just keep away from them please. After the so-called golf – whack-f---k was over – a relief for some – it was back to the clubhouse for a cuppa or coldy – whichever you desired. Robbo drowning his sorrows as was Perko and Zac while the rest of us just bull****ed stories of how un-lucky we were or if it wasn’t for that tree jumping out my ball would have been in the hole. But dear readers you have heard it all before – so I’ll let you be the judge as to who is telling the big whoppers (not me though). This writer does not lie. So, cards counted – winners (believe it or not) John Pike and Merrill Rollins well played guys. Runners up (again believe it or not) Barry Harper and Maree Pinney. N.T.P. – third – no one got close – Robbo claimed it though. N.T.P. – eighth – me – great shot over the trees – again Robbo claimed it – not this time buddy. Lost balls – Robbo one – but it could be a lot more as we have to look for his ball – heaps. Perko and Rocky – still looking for last week’s as is Zac. Being last isn’t that bad boys – but don’t make a habit of it. So, a good day was had by all – next week same – Ambrose. Also, I’m away playing in Canberra for the Left Handers Nationals with 144 lefties playing – coming from every state as well as N.Z. Canada and one from Mexico – we play at four different venues each day with presentation on Friday night. This is my third Nationals – and they take it to a different state each year – 2027 South Australia, 2028 Tasmania. So, looking forward to being with nice sane left-handed people for a change. So, no write-up from me next week. So Rocky get that poison pen out and go for your life buddy – it’ll be all lies pal. Cheers, Perko P.S. Golf was invented in Scotland by a left hander. There’s a golfing god. Ardlethan/Beckom Cricket Playing at Beckom, with a large crowd in attendance of Round Two, Kamarah came away with a strong win over the home team. Batting first, Ardlethan Beckom were all out for 127, with Harry Collis being the main run scorer on 49 with support from Angus Green on 22. Max Conlan 3/27 and Cody Emerson 3/13 were the main wicket takers for Kamarah. When Kamarah batted, they passed Ardlethan Beckom’s score in the 25th over with Mitch Hawker top scoring on 50, well supported by Zac Dart 20 and A Gorman also on 20. Temora Vets: Captains Choice: Two Person Ambrose After last Tuesday’s Veterans tournament, we backed up again on the following Thursday. Gluttons for punishment we are. There was no official competition round scheduled because October has five Thursdays, and we always have the captain make an event selection for the middle Thursday. This can happen about three or four times a year, and I think he enjoys that privilege. We ended up playing a two-person Ambrose. A normal Ambrose. There were no 4-drives per person, no drop-outs. We just picked the best ball, and we hit it. Partners were selected by random choice. (Pairs were selected by the captain). You either liked it, or lumped it. So, stacking a team was eliminated. Our winners on the day were Aaron Coddington (6) and Dennis Miller (40). Playing off an 11.5 handicap, they scraped home by the skin of their teeth. Aaron and Dennis shot a respectable 64.5 nett. Col McCrone (15) and Gavin Holt (9) with a 6 handicap, shot a 65 net. Close, but no cigar. Ball winners: Anthony Madden (10) and Harry Wilson (16) off 6.5 nett 65.5, Mike Daley (12) and Peter Cartwright (27) off 9.75 nett 66.25 c/b, Bob Brabin (14) and Graeme Eyles (17) off 7.75 nett 66.25. Nearest the pins: Third Gavin Holt 7.33 metres, Seventh Phil Bleyer 8.20 metres, 12th Mark Wells 4.20 metres, sixteenth Phil Bleyer 8.75 metres. The drive and chip holes: Three and eight were untouched, which is a bit odd. Maybe they were just too difficult to reach in two on the day. Shot of the day: Aaron Coddington and Dennis Miller put their approach shot (their second shot) on the 17th hole, a par-5, on the green. A tee-shot around the corner, a six iron onto the green, and a one-putt for an eagle-3. Dennis was on fire. I’m not sure what Coddo was doing, but he was lucky he had a partner with some skill. How important was that eagle putt in the end? There were no skins this week, so the $36.00 that is normally allocated will be banked and used down the track. The vets have had a good week of golf. There was the Moses Mitre 10 tournament on Tuesday the 13 October, which was a huge success, and Thursday’s Ambrose. It’s on again this week. On Tuesday the 20 October, we had the vets 9-hole comp, and Thursday the 22nd, we play for points in the Delta Ag Shield. It’s a tough life, but we push on. Honestly, how good is golf? Sunday Golf A single stroke event was played on Sunday the 18 October in conjunction with the second round of the Men's Club Championships. 39 players took part and enjoyed perfect weather and great course conditions - a huge thanks to all the volunteers who work every week to keep the course in top condition. Colby Poole was the winner on the day in a tie break over Bill Ingram on 68 nett. Ball comp: - Ryan Pike - Josh Macgregor - Darcy Filewood - Aaron Coddington - Phil Bleyer - Ruben Wiencke - Hugh Block - Todd Lynch - Steve Pike Ntps: - 3rd: Steve Pike - 7th: Bob Brabin - 12th: Chris McAuley - 16th: Gio Zugarev Gazannes pizza hole (17th) - Gio Zugarev The Bradman Ball went to club legend Peter Heinrich who hopefully we will see more of out on the course! Temora Bowling Club Bowls Five-A-Side We have our finalists for the Five-A-Side Championship with both teams coming out of the same Section. Team New will play Team McKinnon in the decider even though they meet in Round five of Section one when Team New won four points to three points. Team McKinnon actually finished third in Section one after five rounds, however, the Match Committee stepped in and disqualified Team Mouawad (second place) for breaching the Conditions of Play in their deferred Round two match against Team Krause. Team New earnt their way into the final with a solid 8-17 (Pairs), 14-10 (Triples) and 11-5 (Fours) win over Team Stimson while Team McKinnon toppled the undefeated Team Cole 9-7 (Pairs), 10-9 (Triples) and 13-6 (Fours). Mixed Pairs Tournament Starting on Wednesday, 38 Teams began the annual Mixed Pairs Tournament with three rounds played and a further two rounds taking place today. Teams from Camden, Crookwell, Yass, Cowra, Picton, Milton-Ulladulla, Croydon, Cobram as well as local teams from Wagga, Lake Cargelligo, Temora, Ariah Park, Young and West Wyalong taking part with matches being played over 15 ends. We extend a warm welcome to all our guests and hope you all enjoy your time here in Temora. Riverina-Murray Shield Two days of representative bowls were played last weekend when the Temora Bowls and Recreation hosted the 2026 Riverina-Murray Shield for women bowlers. Our local squad, built around players from Temora, Lake Cargelligo and West Wyalong acquitted themselves well over the five rounds however, the round five match between the two undefeated sides from Southern Highlands and the South Western Regions proved to be the decider with South Western winning on both Rinks to the tune of 34-20. Matches were played using the Fours format over 15 completed ends. Our Southern Slopes Region finished in third place overall which is a whole lot better than the men did at the Bing Wallder Shield where they finished stone motherless. Well done Ladies. Boo Hoo Blokes. Spring Night Bowls This annual night series kicks off on Thursday 29 October and runs for eight weeks. Matches start at 6pm and finish at 8pm so players can be off the green to either order something from the Bistro or garb some tickets in the Thursday Night meat draws. Contact 0423 121 358 to enter your Triples team. Actually, most teams have more than three players so you don’t have to play each week. It’s something to consider. King of the Turf Well here’s a first, Chief Steward Bomber Edwards used an Electron Microscope to separate the winners in last weekend’s quintuple photo finish. Gabi Horan apparently strolled home by “a lip” from Tracey Breust who herself was just “a blink” in front of Chris Cole, Glenn Breust and John Rayner. “A whisker” behind them was a hoard of fast finishers who must feel a little unlucky after watching the chief steward collecting handsomely on an Exacta he placed before the race. There’s nothing shonky going on here.
