Rankins Springs will come alive with creativity and a splash of colour at the Rankins Springs Art and Photography Competition and Exhibition at the War Memorial Hall on Saturday. Sponsored by the Rankins Springs branch of the CWA, the annual event will feature the artistic and photographic talents of entrants across several age groups and categories. The art competition is open to preschool, primary, under-18 and over-18 entrants, with categories including springtime, landscapes, drawing, any subject, sculpture and handicraft. The photography competition will feature the same age groups, with categories covering springtime, landscapes, birds and animals, insects and nature and country life. There will also be a dedicated section for professional photographers, which will offer a first prize of $200 and a second prize of $50. Last year’s Most Outstanding Artwork was awarded to Jackie Jansen, while Phillip Williams took out the Most Outstanding Photo. The exhibition will officially open at 10am, with prizes to be awarded from 11am. The exhibition will be part of a bigger day of activities at the Rankins Springs War Memorial Hall, with the CWA Markets also opening from 10am. Visitors can enjoy a barbecue breakfast and lunch, a coffee van, children’s activities, live music and a Show n Shine. With art, photography, food, music, markets and plenty of community activities on offer, the event promises to be a full day of entertainment for Rankins Springs and surrounding communities.
