The Trungley Hall Model Aero Club held their Geoffrey Potter tribute flying day last Saturday, 23May, More than 15 people and 50 or 60 model aircraft attended the event that was held in memory of well-known local modeller Geoffrey Potter who died of cancer a few years ago. He was a very popular and respected member of the modelling community always offering help, as well as building model engines. Event organiser Rob Walker said that he loves anything aviation and flying model aircraft is something he has done all his life. “I would love to see more kids involved, when I was at school a lot of us had flying model planes,” Mr Walker said. “Kids think their phones are great fun but they have no idea what they are missing.” “There are a lot of Air Force cadets in Sydney learning to fly the models, which is really good to encourage people flying models.” Flying model aircraft are, in essence, a drone and all of the same regulations apply to flying them. Learning to fly model aircraft is a good introduction to aviation.
