The Temora Kangaroos Australian football seniors’ team is now playing sudden-death football following a 31-point loss against the CSU Bushpigs last Saturday The Kangaroos 7.8 (50) lost against the Bushpigs 12.9 (81) in their Farrer League Qualifying Final game, at the Coleambally Sports Grounds. The defeat was the second loss in as many weeks against the Bushpigs after the Kangaroos had lost by 63 points in the final regular competition round. The Kangaroos’ goal kickers included Will Ford (4), Lachlan Robertson (2) and one each for Robert Krause, Zac Wiencke and Riley Hubbard. Their best players were Joseph Morton, Robert Krause, Blake Basham, Riley Hubbard, Abraham Wooden and Will Ford. Meanwhile, the Kangaroos reserves’ season has ended after losing 5.8 (38) against the East Wagga Kooringal Hawks 9.6 (60) in their Elimination Final at Maher Oval, Wagga. Restricted to kicking just two behinds in the first quarter, the Kangaroos found themselves trailing by 17 points at the end of the opening stanza. Kicking two goals and two behinds in the second quarter, the Kangaroos fell slightly further behind, going into the main break 21 points behind the Hawks. The Kangaroos outscored their opponents after the restart, but only by two points to head into the final quarter trailing by 19 points. An evenly-matched low-scoring fourth quarter sealed the Kangaroos’ fate as the Hawks held on for a 22-point victory and continued their foray into the finals series. The Kangaroos’ goal kickers included Liam Pattison (2) and one each for Nate Breust (2) and one each for Nick Holt, Dean Ward and William Scott. Their best players were Callum Derrick, Alex Dahlenburg, Nic McRae, Harvey Holt, Rob Grant and Jackson Macauley. The Under 18.5s Kangaroos 17.18 (120) prevailed in their Elimination Final after defeating the Marrar Bombers 4.4 (28). In their win-or-bust game at Maher Oval, the Kangaroos started well to open up a 15-point lead at the end of the opening quarter. However, it was in the second quarter when the teenage Kangaroos made their mark. They booted five goals and three behinds, while restricting the Bombers to kicking a single goal and two behinds, to take a handy 43-point halftime lead. After the restart, the Kangaroos extended their lead to go into the final quarter leading by 53 points. The Kangaroos saved their best for the last quarter as they put the game out of reach, kicking seven goals and four behinds to blow out the scoreline. Their goal kickers were Lachlan Blackwell (4), Patrick Bryant (4), Nate Breust (2), Max Drenovski (2) and one each for George Morton, Thomas Mattner, William Rosamond, Jonte Reid and Liam Drum. In the next round of the finals series on Sunday, the senior Kangaroos will face the Marrar Bombers at 2.15pm in a do-or-die clash at Victoria Park, The Rock, with the loser’s season being ended. The Under 18.5s will also play at Victoria Park on Sunday, taking on the Coleambally Blues in a must-win clash at 10am.
