Temora Vets: Intersales Cup: Round 13 Warren Bremer (34) was the winner in round 13 of the Intersales Cup with a net 71. His playing partners said that Warren putted like a demon and drove the ball with deft accuracy. He does enjoy his Thursdays with the old boys, that’s obvious, and he has a very good golfing attitude. Well done mate: keep it going. Runner-up and a stroke behind Warren was Anthony Abra (16) with a net 72. I was lucky to have played in Anthony’s group, lucky to witness his incredible touch around the greens. His wedge play was impressive, and I was extremely impressed by the intense concentration he gives to every shot. Ball winners were: Aaron Coddington (6) net 73 Neville Elwin (12) net 74 c/b Diane Starling (18) net 74 Phil Bleyer (15) net 75 c/b Graeme Eyles (17) net 75. Intersales points: Warren Bremer 6 Anthony Abra 5 Neville Elwin 4 Diane Starling 3 Phil Bleyer 2 The remaining vets who played and submitted a score are awarded a point towards their Intersales progressive score. Nearest the pins: Seventh Dave Loftus 4.6 metres, the drive and chip on the third was won by Di Starling with 2.8 metres. The eighth was won by Jason Fernie with 4.6 metres. The skins: We could have just declared that everyone goes on the one sheet, but rules are rules, and they are there for a reason. So, without further ado, in division 1: Aaron Coddington pocketed seven skins for $7.00. Anthony Madden four, Jason Fernie three, Dave Loftus two, and Steve Shuck one. The kitty banked one for $1.00. Division 2: The man of the moment, Warren Bremer was running hot. Warren won eight skins for $8.00, and he donated that back towards the barbeque fund. What a man. Graeme Eyles won five, and Peter Cartwright and Harry Wilson won a skin each. The kitty banked another three. Shot of the day: None. Nineteen golfers and not one shot worthy of a mention? how sad. I’ll use one that Graeme Eyles produced last week. After another great par save on the 15th for three points, Graeme hopped into his golf cart and slowly made his way to the 16th tee. His club selection took forever, and I don’t know why as he always uses his 3-wood. Maybe he was trying to calculate wind velocity (there was no wind) possibly considering the air temperature, (it was bloody cold) whatever he was doing, it worked. Graeme hit the most gorgeous high draw into the 16th green. His ball landed approximately two meters on the front of the green, then rolled on target and stopped an agonising 0.95 centimetres short of the hole. We all thought (well, I didn’t) that Graeme’s ball was going in for a hole-in-one. It was a great shot, and he did make the birdie putt for four points. How good is golf? Next week’s event will be round 14 of the Delta Ag Shield, Stableford. Normal times apply, 10.30 am registration for an 11am tee off. Coolamon Golf By THOMAS GOSS Coolamon took a backseat on Saturday to the dramatic and historic events at the Narrandera Open. Six brave men faced the horrendous challenge of the Narrandera course and only one was able to break even. Jake Seymour carded an excellent 77 including a four iron on the last which ended 5 centimetres from a hole in one, and Daniel R Milne whose round included dazzling ball striking gave every indication that he could break eighty, but Narrandera bit back with the savagery of a great white bite on the greens. His 46 putts told the story of Narrandera’s brutal revenge. The highlight of the day for every man, child and beast present was this writers’s first ever pink ball. I have battled Narrandera hundreds of times and arguably broke even twice but this time Narrandera chewed me up, vomited me out, thrashed the living daylights out of me and abandoned me up the back as a banquet for crows and magpies to peck at. If it was a horse race, and there were several adjacent to the course that I would’ve been far happier to attend, Narrandera would’ve been flashing past the post while I was still emerging from the barrier. Strange how a bloke winning a pink ball can cause such widespread hilarity and merriment. After all, it’s not as if I have ever made fun of the foibles of my golfing compatriots or rejoiced in their struggles. Ahh well, such are the depths of depravity and viciousness festering in the human heart. Meanwhile at Royal Coolamon, the comeback kid Wayne Kew had a day out wining the holy trinity by recording 40 Stableford points, hearing his name drawn out in the raffle and pocketing the birdie jackpot. Stu Seymour was the runner up chewing on Kewie’s dust all afternoon. A deliciously warm day greeted the large field of 28 to contest Sunday’s monthly medal sponsored by Aaron Nolte’s welding, otherwise known as the weldness centre. It was a heartwarming sight to witness Grub Broadhead overcoming his severe physical ailments, like a pimple on his nose, to finally find the strength to complete a full round and let his amazing talents flourish. His 71 net saw him cruise to victory over Bruce Chant and Sandra Wilson on 73 with Andy Hilton, Stu Seymour and Bryan Buchanan rounding out the prize rundown. Novelty prizes over both days were awarded to Pete Nolte, Bruce Chant, Matt Lawson, Sharn Seymour, Ray Jennings, Stu Seymour, Gail O’Brien, Josh Allen, Rick Sloan, Tom Goss, Karen Hilton, Kev Macauley, Sandy Wilson Greg McKelvie and Graham (with a H) Maslin. Joining yours truly in the pink ball club were the evergreen Ray Jennings who couldn’t quite produce his Temora Vets form on Saturday and Ryan Allen who clearly has been working flat out on his game, securing the coaching genius of John Mapstone to iron out his flaws. The Map of Stone has the distinction of holding the course record 166, not counting Monos. Keep at it Ryan. Practice makes perfect. Interestingly, both pink ball achievements passed without a ripple. The Narrandera pink ball winner received a standing ovation, viral social media coverage, dominated the conversation at the Fedex Cup, made the ABC news and was featured as the lead off story on the US Sportscentre program. This weekend there is the Riverina sand green championship at The Rock while Royal Coolamon will be conducting a Stableford event both days. Due to a personal commitment, I won’t be present to defend the pink ball. Ariah Park Golf What a wonderful day for golf at the Royal Ariah Park Golf Club on Saturday for Round two of the 2026 Championships, and everyone who turned up to play was in a great frame of mind and ready to “fire up” and also were just happy to be out playing golf regardless of last week’s results. We have a wonderful small club out here and most of the time we get along with only the occasional dust-up (not many), so we laugh, joke and we try our very best to accommodate all players regardless of their ability. Twelve eager golfers turned up to match their skills against the elements and terrain and sometimes terrifying pine forest which is part of our golf course, but the battle must be fought in any conditions, so the brave continued on their way. As I mentioned last week, the “C” Grade was always going to be a ding-dong battle for supremacy and what a game it turned out to be, Zac had a commanding 14-shot lead over newcomer Garry, and everyone thought (including Zac) that this lead wouldn’t be enough. Well, strange things happen on a golf course, with Garry turning up to play while Zac tried his best to throw it away, as it turned out Garry picked up 12 shots up on Zac and just fell short of the mark by two shots. Another hole and Zac was gone. But in the end he hung on for a well-deserved win but both players should be applauded for their effort and sportsmanship. Well done fellows. In “B” Grade, Nodsa also had a commanding lead going into round two, so he just had to finish to win as the other two contenders decided not to front up and contest, which is not very sportsmanlike – well, you just never know what can happen and as it turned out, Nodsa had an ordinary first nine holes which is unlike him, but he knuckled down to the task on the back nine holes. So, if the other two players had turned up, they might have put pressure on Nodsa, but not to be. Nodsa, you thoroughly deserved your great win and we congratulate your effort. Well done buddy. In “A” Grade it has also always got close to Camo. But as “C” and “B” Grade, the wheels can sometimes get a bit wobbly and it did just that as Camo slipped up on a few holes and just left the door ajar slightly for Barry, Perko, Rocky etc. to catch up. But was he just “toying” with us (I think so), but whatever the reason he did start to play a lot better after the little tricks he has played on us. In the end he has just too good for the rest of us. So, congrats Camo on your “A” Grade title. You are by far the best golfer out here. Well done buddy. So, Robbo, Pikey, myself, Perko and Barry, we must come up with something to stop this guy. Do something Mr Pike, we have 12 months to come up with a plan. Ha ha. Congratulations to “A” Grade Champion Darryl “Camo” Cameron – Sponsor – Herbie New Earthmoving – thanks for your ongoing support Herbie. “B” Grade Winner – Nodsa Johnstone – Sponsor – Temora Ex-Service Club. “C” Grade Winner – Zac Worland – Sponsor – Temora Ex-Service Club. Thanks, Dave, for your support also, our club appreciates all our sponsors. Ladies Saturday handicap winner – Merrilyn Rollins – Sponsor – FYCC (Canberra Sponsor Geoff) – well done all winners. So, the pressure was on the leaders to perform and for some they did while others just hung on as was the case for the ladies also with Maree coming out of the blocks with power and played very well. So, look out next year and maybe we might see a couple of more ladies for Saturday golf – let’s hope so. As Maree won the day with a terrific round, she is off the dunce chair for 2026 which only leaves Mr Pike without a win. So, only one squaring Garry left, and he only has four weeks to prove his worth before closing day so lift your game, pal – or the chair is yours. Back to the clubhouse for a bit of back slapping. All there and for Rocky and Barry to check and double check all cards and results for the winners to be announced. Shot of the Day – Mr Pike on a par three – got a 7. I won’t go into it too much, but it was awful – had me in stitches. He just couldn’t take a trick. Shot of the Day (2) – Nodsa – Par 4 – seventh – fair drive – next one – tree over the fence, reload – hit same tree over the fence again – next, on fairway – next into scrub – next tree – next and the list goes on. Got a 10 they say. Well, ring barked a couple of trees Nodsa – happens to us all. As my first shot connected Kev’s tree also, but I avoided them after that – not so Pikey – round plenty of them. Some we have seen for a while. So, it happens out here at the Royal. Lost balls this week – Pikey 1, Perko 1, Nodsa 2, Camo found them, Garry 1, Zac 2, and maybe a few more but wouldn’t say Rocky 1? Anyway, it was a great day, so thanks everyone for turning up and congrats to our four winners for 2026 from everyone at our club. Cheers, Preferred Lies
