As we reach the halfway point in the Farrer League season with nine games completed, the Temora Kangaroos Australian football seniors’ team will be looking to build on their recent run of form. Starting the season with a confidence-boosting 65-point win against the Marrar Bomber, the Kangaroos, the defending premiers, looked as if they would continue a streak of winning form. However, the following three games had Kangaroos fans searching for answers after slumping to a trio of straight defeats and sending the boys in blue and white sliding down the ladder. The Kangaroos got back on track in round 5 with a 20-point win away from home against the Northern Jets and haven’t looked back since. Then they knocked off The Rock Yerong Creek Magpies in front of their own fans at Victoria Park with a 21-point victory. Coming off a bye in round 7, the Kangaroos saw off the Coleambally Blues with a 47-point win and then a 50-point victory against the CSU Bushpigs in home games at Nixon Park. The East Wagga Kooringal Hawks are way out in front at the top of the ladder with an unbeaten record this season, but the Kangaroos are close on their heels, sitting in joint second alongside the North Wagga Saints and the Marrar Bombers. The boot of Jock Cornell has helped the Kangaroos climb the ladder. Cornell is the Kangaroos’ top goal kicker, chipping in with 15 for the season to date. He is closely followed by Will Ford with 13 six-pointers and Riley Hubbard who has slotted home a dozen goals for the season. Meanwhile, the Kangaroos’ reserves also sit fourth on the ladder and in finals contention with four wins and four losses this season. Samuel Connolly is way out in front as the Kangaroos’ leading goal kicker with 16. The Under 18.5s Kangaroos have recorded five wins and three losses this year and sit fourth on the ladder. Their joint top goal-kickers include Thomas Mattner and Nate Breust, both with 12 goals each. Patrick Bryant is not far behind them with 11 goals. All teams had a rest last weekend due to the general bye for the June long weekend, but they will be back in action on Saturday with away games against the Marrar Bombers at Langtry Oval. The bounce-up for the seniors is at 2.10pm, the reserves will start at 12.10pm and the Under 18.5s will play at 10.20am.
