As we reach the halfway point in the Central West Rugby Union South West Fuels Cup competition, the women’s team, the Tuskerettes, is flying the flag for the Temora Rugby Union Club this season. With the Tuskerettes having five games under their belt, they sit at the top of the ladder as the competition’s only undefeated team. The Grenfell Pink Panthers are close behind in second place, just six competition points adrift. The Tuskerettes opened their account with a 24-10 win against the West Wyalong Redbacks in the opening round and have continued their winning ways ever since. They have already defeated their closest rivals, the Pink Panthers 36-19, earlier this season. The Tuskers’ men’s team has not been as successful and will be hoping to mount a charge in the second half of the season to propel them into contention for a finals berth. The Tuskers currently sit seventh on the ladder and have been competitive in most of their games. That was the good news for the Tuskers, however five straight defeats followed to send the Temora team into a downward spiral and saw them tumbling down the ladder. All teams had a rest last weekend due to the general bye for the June long weekend, but the Tuskers will be back in action on Saturday with an away game against Cootamundra Tricolours. The men’s kick-off is scheduled for 2.45pm, while the women have a bye, but the Tuskerettes will return with a home game against the Redbacks at the Temora Recreation Ground on Saturday 20 June.
