The Temora Rugby Union Club has secured a major funding boost through the NSW Government and NSW Rugby’s World Cup Legacy Program, paving the way for the construction of a new multi-purpose facility at the Temora Recreation Ground. The club will expand its facilities after securing a $40,000 grant through the $10 million joint initiative between the NSW Government, Rugby Australia, Rugby NSW and the ACT Brumbies. Funding is designed to ensure that hosting the Men's Rugby World Cup next year delivers lasting community benefits across the state. The project will be built adjoining the existing structures at the western end of the ground. Club Treasurer Kris Dunstan said the successful funding application had been confirmed by NSW Minister for Sport, Steve Kamper. While outlining the club’s plans for the new building, Dunstan shared his excitement about the funding and the benefits the project will bring to the club. “We were looking to add a building off the clubhouse awning that runs behind the current scoreboard,” he said. “The total build is $55,000 – the club is contributing $15,000. “It will provide a valuable space that extends the facilities available for functions and events at the ground, while also serving as a training area for our members when weather conditions prevent us from training outdoors. “The area will be multipurpose - storage/training and additional indoor function space, which would operate with the existing clubhouse and outdoor space.” Dunstan said work is scheduled to start after the junior and senior rugby union seasons are completed in September. “The club plans to commence construction following the completion of the current playing season to ensure there is no disruption to members, players, and supporters throughout the remainder of the rugby year,” he said. “We aim to have the build complete and operational by preseason (March) 2027. “This exciting development will further enhance the club's facilities and provide long-term benefits for players, members and the wider Temora community.” The new facility will be designed as a flexible space to complement the existing clubhouse and outdoor areas and is expected to deliver long-term benefits for the club and the wider Temora community.
