Temora Vets: Delta Ag Shield: Stableford Round 18 What a good day it was. Twenty-seven players, sunshine, a sausage sizzle, and amazing company. Even some of the lady golfers joined us. Obviously getting in some extra game time before the second round of their club championship, and why not. It’s an important part of their golfing program, and the vets wish them well. The winner of the Delta Ag Shield was Mark Wells (10) with 42 points. An excellent 75 off the stick would probably win any vets competition. Mark started to come into form when October came along. Gradually building his game to a level that we know he is capable of playing. Runner-up was our little dynamo, Judy Gorton (23) with 40 points. Can this lady play or what? Ball winners: Sharron Wilmott (27) with a nice 39 points on a count-back from Warren (the 9-hole king) Bremer (32) 39 points, Di Starling was next with 38 points, Marg Townsend (31) 38 points, Col McCrone (15) 37 points, Neville Elwin (13) 37 points, and Harry Wilson (16) won the last Bridgestone e6 with 37 points. Delta Ag points: Mark Wells six, Judy Gorton five, Sharron Wilmott four, Warren Bremer three, Di Starling two. Nearest the pins: Third (for handicaps 0-15) Bill Ingram (18) with an exceptional shot, just 1.65 metres from the hole. His birdie putt was ever so close, but a tap-in par for three points was a good result. Seventh Anthony Madden 2.4 metres, Twelfth Aaron Coddington 2.98 metres, Sixteenth Mike Daley 2.43 metres. Drive and chip: Third (for handicaps 16-54) Anthony Abra (17) 1.16m. The 8th was won by Anthony Madden with 1.52 metres. Shot of the day: Graeme Eyles put his tee shot into the trees on the right-hand side of the 14th fairway. His second shot wasn’t going to be easy as his ball was in the rough, lying on stones. He had a slight gap between the trees, but he had to be very accurate. His attempt was good, but he just caught the side of a tree. His ball did progress some 30 meters forward, unfortunately, still among the stones. His third shot was very similar to his second except this time he found a gap between the trees. A low punch with his 6-iron ran 90 meters onto the green, stopping roughly 10 meters from the hole. Graeme’s putt for par was so close, missing by millimetres. A bogie five for two points was a bonus considering where his drive had finished initially. Graeme's third shot was a touch of class. After the disappointment of his second shot, Graeme showed that he has a lot of golf skills. We know Graeme has plenty of game, and on this occasion, he showed us all what he is capable of doing when he puts his mind to it. Thank you to Anthony Madden for taking on the cooking duties. Not only can you cook a decent pizza, you can also cook up a gourmet sausage sandwich. Well done to Mark Wells on his excellent round of golf, awesome mate. Next Thursday the 29 October, we play the Intersales Cup. Believe it or not, there is only two more rounds of the Delta Ag Shield to go, and three of the Intersales Cup matches before our golf season ends. If anyone needs to know where they stand on either leaderboard, get in touch with the captain as he is the man with the figures. Ladies Golf Saturday was the second round of the Ladies Championships. Junior Cricket Thunder claim derby bragging rights By SEAN CUNNINGHAM The Temora District Junior Cricket Association competition started last Saturday, with the Temora Thunder earning the bragging rights in the local derby match against the Temora Scorchers. In the Under 16s, the Thunder (7/128) beat the Scorchers (9/75) at Nixon Park in the opening round. Winning the toss and choosing to bowl first, the Scorchers struggled in their quest to take a wicket in the early stages of the game. At the crease with bat in hand, Michael Macauley produced a fine knock to finish as the Thunder’s highest run scorer with 38 runs. He was ably supported by his other two teammates, who also both reached double figures – Hudson Breust (21 runs) and Jim Donoghue (20 not out). The Scorchers’ wicket takers were Ben Robinson (3/1), Harry Swanston (2/6), Noah Swanston (1/8) and Archer Meehan (1/32). In the run chase, the Scorchers were in trouble early at 2/11 as the Thunder bowlers ripped into the batsmen. The Thunder’s wicket takers included Leo Furphy (2/6), Chase Jordan (2/10), Hudson Breust (1/2), Lucy Potter (1/4), Jim Donoghue (1/10) and Alexander Mattner (1/15). Meanwhile, in the Under 13s Western Pool, the Ariah Park Redbacks (5/84) defeated the Arthur Stacey Stars (7/83) at The Oval. The Redbacks won the toss and elected to bowl first. The Stars didn’t get off to a great start when opening batsman Jeffrey Baker was run out with the first ball of the second over, with just one run on the scoreboard. However, Parker Breust steadied the innings and finished as the Stars’ highest run scorer with 31 n.o. from 31 deliveries. The Redbacks’ wicket takers were Edward Fairman (3/12), Logan Bell (1/6), Darcy Bell (1/7) and Abraham Fairhman (1/7). In the run chase, it took just 17 overs for the Redbacks to reel in the target. Kye Pursehouse finished as their highest run scorer with 36 n.o. The Stars’ wicket takers included Parker Breust (2/9), Alby Swanston (1/8), Tristan Swanston (1/9) and Spencer Fernie (1/9). In round 2 on Friday, the Thunder will host the Harden Hornets at Nixon Park at 6pm and the Scorchers will be at home against the Cootamundra Kookaburras at Nixon Park on Saturday at 8.30am. In the Under 13s, the Redbacks will host the Cootamundra Kingfishers at the Ariah Park Sports Oval and the Stars will be at home against the Ariah Park Whitetails at The Oval. Both games will start at 8.30am on Saturday.
