The Temora Kangaroos Australian football seniors’ team notched a fourth win for the season with a 47-point victory against the Coleambally Blues in the Farrer League competition last Saturday. The Kangaroos 12.13 (85) defeated the Blues 5.8 (38) on home turf at Nixon Park. Taking a 19-point lead at the end of the opening quarter, the Kangaroos kicked on and took a handy 26-point lead heading into halftime. Rejuvenated after the short break, the Kangaroos produced their most productive quarter after the restart. Most of the damage was done in this period when the Kangaroos restricted their opponents to kicking just a single behind, while they went on to kick three goals and six behinds themselves. The game was all but over as the Kangaroos headed into the final stanza leading by 49 points. The Kangaroos were outscored by two points in the fourth quarter, but a victory was never in doubt. The Kangaroos’ goal kickers included Riley Hubbard (5) and one each from Lachlan Leary, James Godde, Kieran Shea, Liam Sinclair, William Morsehead, Blake Basham and Isaac Reardon. Their best players were Liam Sinclair, Robert Krause, Zachary Oliver, James Godde, Joseph Morton and Riley Derrick. Meanwhile, the Kangaroos’ reserves 22.16 (148) beat the Blues 1.3 (9) by 139 points. The reserves were ruthless in front of the goalposts, especially in the opening quarter when the boys in blue and white had the game all but won. In defence, the Kangaroos were equally impressive, holding the Blues scoreless in the opening period to take a 51-point lead. The Blues didn’t make any inroads in the following quarter either, kicking just two behinds, while the Kangaroos piled on the points with six goals and five behinds to blow out the lead to 80 points. The Blues got their only goal of the game after the restart, but couldn’t match the relentless Kangaroos, who led by 111 points heading into the final quarter. The same as the opening quarter, the Kangaroos held the Blues scoreless yet again in the fourth quarter to record a massive victory. The reserves’ multiple goal kickers included Samuel Connolly (6), Liam Pattison (4), Nate Breust (2), Nathan Stimson (2) and Caleb Jezewski (2). Their best players were Liam Pattison, Matthew Krause, Edward Oliver, Dean Ward, Daylen Coleman and Thomas Mattner. The Under 18.5s Kangaroos 5.3 (33) fared worse, losing by 27 points against the Blues 9.6 (60). The score was locked at 19-all at the end of the opening quarter, but the Kangaroos failed to score a single point in the second quarter, allowing the Blues to open up a 13-point lead at halftime. The Kangaroos rallied after the break to reduce the lead to nine points at the end of the third quarter, but could only kick a single behind in the final quarter, while the Blues kicked three goals and a behind to blow out the winning margin. The teenage Kangaroos’ goal kickers included Nate Breust (20 and one each for Thomas Mattner, Patrick Bryant and Jacob Durham. Their best players included Daylen Coleman, Jonte Reid, Oscar Bent, Nate Breust, Thomas Mattner and Max Drenovski. In round nine, the Kangaroos’ seniors will host the Marrar Bombers, the reserves will face the CSU Bushpigs and the Under 18.5s will be up against the Bombers at Nixon Park on Saturday. The bounce-up for the seniors is at 2.10pm, while the reserves will start their game at 12.10pm and the Under 18.5s at 10.20am.
