The Temora Ribbon Run has received its single biggest donation to date with $5000 presented to the tireless group of volunteers by the Temora Ex-Services Club on Monday 3 August. President of the Temora Ribbon Run committee, Chris Watson, said that it was fantastic. “We couldn't do what we do without places like the Ex-Services Club and other businesses in town supporting us,” Mr Watson said. “From a $5 donation to a $5,000 donation, they're all greatly appreciated. The Temora Ribbon Run is a local charity that raises money for Temora Can Assist as well as raising awareness for all types of cancer through its motorbike run through the small towns surrounding Temora. Going into its fourth year the name is inspired by the 28 coloured ribbons that the various cancers have to signify them, this event is designed to unite people to support those suffering from all types of cancer. Jason Smith, president of the Ex-Services Club said that the club does sponsor a lot of community grants, but this is one of the most important ones. “I feel that needs to be backed,” Mr Smith said. “This is one of the biggest single grants we have given out.” Throughout the year the Temora Ribbon Run committee organise a series of fundraising activities which culminate in the motorbike run that gets under way on 10 October at 10am leaving from the Temora Bowling Club. People come from all over the state and beyond to take part in the charity run, in fact last years run attracted 122 riders, which is also a boon for the tourism industry in town with most accommodation booked out year on year. Last year the committee raised $25,000 and are hoping to do the same or better this year. The next major fund-raising event is a barbeque at Temora Mitre 10 on 15 August from 10am through to 2pm, locals and visitors are encouraged to come along and support the local group that puts money back into helping the community to support those suffering from cancer.
