The sun was shining and the roar of engines filled the air as the Temora annual Ribbon Run got underway last Saturday, 10 October, as riders from far and wide set off from the Temora Bowling Club on the 300-kilometre ride that would take them through picturesque countryside around the region. It was the biggest role up in the event’s four-year history with more than 150 registered riders coming together to help raise funds for Temora residents dealing with cancer. All funds raised from the run are donated to Temora Can Assist. Temora Shire Council mayor Rick Firman was on hand to welcome the riders and send them on their way as they set out for the first stop of the day at the Royal Hotel at Marrar. Councillor Firman said that the Ribbon Run was a fantastic event, it livens up the Temora township and what is particularly great is not only do we have locals involved, but we also have those that are coming here to visit and support. “I think the Temora Ribbon Run committee and the president, Mr Watson and his team, they are fantastic in terms of the fundraising and the hard work and their volunteering,” Cr Firman said. “It really is terrific because all of it [money raised], as we know, goes to Can Assist Temora helping those in our shire that need a helping hand as they're dealing with the big C. “I just think it's great, they've got a ripper of a day, and I just congratulate the organisers and thank all of those who have made the effort to support this very, very big day.” There were local riders as well from as far away as Cronulla in Sydney, Ardlethan, Harden, Young and Deniliquin. The variety of bikes reflected the different people from all walks of life taking part in the ride. President of the Ribbon Run Committee, Chris Watson said that the event is not a single person affair and there are many people putting in many hours to and hard work to make it happen. “We, as a committee, were very happy and I think the participants were all extremely happy,” Mr Watson said. “We've got a great team and there's a lot of heads there to come up with new ideas and to refine ideas. “It was a great day for a ride, the weather was lovely and there were many highlights of the day.”
