The new modern health facility with expanded services under one roof for Temora and surrounding communities at a cost of $95 million. For the first time, once complete, the new hospital will offer CT services and a new ultrasound service, significantly improving local access to diagnostic imaging. The redevelopment will also include a state-of-the-art operating theatre and procedure room in the new perioperative suite, an expanded medical imaging unit, a new emergency department and a birthing suite and nursery. Some of the other inclusions are a flexible inpatient unit supporting maternity, medical, surgical, rehabilitation and palliative care admissions as well as allied health and ambulatory clinics, including a gymnasium. The current community health, mental health, drug and alcohol services and pathology collection services will operate out of improved facilities. Chairman of the Temora Local Health Advisory Committee (LHAC) and mayor of Temora Shire Council, Rick Firman said this is another exciting major step forward for our new Temora District Hospital. “The Contractors (Richard Crookes) have been doing a terrific job. “They’ve also been spending a lot of money on our Temora town with businesses and community sponsorships. This is great. ‘This is a major step forward for our Temora Shire and other neighbouring communities. “Council are very grateful to Minister Park, our State MP – Steph Cooke, Richard Crookes Constructions, Murrumbidgee Local Health District and our Temora District Hospital staff. “They’ve all been tremendous and we look forward to the next stages commencing’. This is an exciting time for Temora Shire.” According to the NSW government the community has played an important role in shaping the design of the new hospital, with ongoing consultation helping identify and preserve significant heritage items that will be incorporated into the redevelopment. The new hospital is being delivered in stages, with health services continuing to operate throughout construction and every effort being made to minimise impacts to patients, staff and visitors. Member for Cootamundra, Steph Cooke MP, said that Temora’s new hospital is rapidly taking shape, and it has been fantastic to watch this vital project become a reality with each visit to town. “Every milestone marks another step forward for a community that has worked tirelessly to secure a modern health facility capable of meeting local needs now and well into the future,” Ms Cooke said. “This new hospital will provide the essential services a growing rural community deserves, supporting more surgeries, more births, and better access to care closer to home, reducing the need for patients to travel to referral hospitals. “The next priority is ensuring the facility is matched with a strong health workforce by the time of opening in 2028. “We need to see the government make meaningful progress in attracting and retaining healthcare professionals in the region so this state-of-the-art hospital can reach its full potential, as well as our neighbouring health facilities. “Temora is a wonderful place to live and raise a family, and health professionals who choose to work here will have access to a modern workplace they can be proud of.” The redevelopment is expected to be completed in 2028.
