The Rotary Club of Temora second hand bookshop is well known throughout the district, and this year will mark its fifth birthday. When it first opened on 12 August it was just two rooms and a few trestle tables with books. It has gone from strength to strength, expanding to seven rooms packed to the rafters with approximately 100 bookcases and 30,000 books. Bookshop manager and Rotary Club secretary, Sue King, said that the bookshop got off to a slow start with Covid 19 lockdowns closing the fledgling enterprise for a month not long after it opened. “During the last Rotary year, we sold 25,500 books, as well as giving away a lot to the community centre, childcare centres, waiting rooms and the Ariah Park Café. “We have saved more than 100,000 books from landfill and found them new homes.” It is developing a reputation not just within the shire but beyond the with people coming from as far as Wagga Wagga and further afield to come and visit the shop to look for that hard to get book or just browse through the huge collection. Books are all just $1 each a great bargain. There are also CD’s, DVD’s, records, jigsaw puzzles and magazines. Earlier this year the enterprise earned a Rotary District Project Award. The building at 217 Hoskins Street is generously supplied to the Rotary Club by Ronald Auswild.
