The excitement has been building for several months now with the dedicated team of volunteers at Temora SES as they have been preparing to celebrate their 50th anniversary this Saturday. Getting underway at 10am at the Vesper Street Headquarters, there will be vehicles on display, including some from Wagga SES, equipment demonstrations, a barbeque lunch and an opportunity to talk to current and former members and there will be facility tours of the headquarters building. The event will give people the chance to meet the local SES members and learn more about preparing their home for storms and floods, as well as supporting the community by volunteering with the local unit. There will be plenty of parking available and they are expecting a good turnout and are strongly encouraging for new volunteers to join the important community service as they start a rebuilding phase of the volunteer base. Temora SES controller Tony Storm said that it was a great way to honour the original members that started it all in 1976, some of whom will be present on the day. “It will be a great chance for those interested in getting involved in volunteering to see what happens and what to expect,” Mr Storm said. “Many people may not realise that SES can lead to a successful career, I met one of the young chaps that was in it years ago and he's now a Deputy Commissioner and I’m pretty sure he is on six figures a year. “The skills and training that volunteers receive at SES are transferable and add to a person’s career outside the organisation as well.”
