The Temora Kangaroos Australian football seniors’ team was involved in a thriller in the first round of the second half of the season, but suffered a heartbreaking one-point loss. The Kangaroos 14.5 (89) went down against the Marrar Bombers 14.6 (90) in their Farrer League away game at Langtry Oval last Saturday. Starting well in the opening quarter, the Kangaroos opened up a handy 11-point lead. Both teams were evenly matched in the second quarter and the Kangaroos’ winning margin remained at 11 points heading into the main break. The Bombers reduced the margin to just five points after the restart to set up a thrilling finish in the final quarter. Kicking two goals and a behind in the last quarter, the Kangaroos were pipped by a single point as the Bombers added three goals and one behind to their tally to emerge victorious by the narrowest of margins. The Kangaroos’ goal kickers included Lachlan Leary (2), Jack Cullen (2), James Godde (2), Lachlan Robertson (2), Joseph Morton (2) and one each for Liam Sinclair, Robert Krause, Angus McRae and Nick Holt. Their best players were Lachlan Leary, Bayley Blackwell, James Godde, Liam Sinclair, Lachlan Robertson and Joseph Morton. Meanwhile, the Kangaroos’ reserves 11.11 (77) had better fortune, defeating the Bombers 5.7 (37) by 40 points. The reserves finished the opening quarter with three goals and three behinds, while restricting their opponents to just four behinds. However, another productive following quarter resulted in the Kangaroos opening up a handy 25-point lead at the main break. After the restart, the Kangaroos continued to outscore their opponents, kicking another three goals and two behinds to extend their lead to 33 points entering the final quarter. In a low-scoring last quarter for both teams, the Kangaroos outscored the Bombers by seven points to seal the win. The reserves’ goal kickers included Nathan Stimson (2), Harvey Holt (2), Liam McKelvie (2), Simon Quinn (2) and one each for Zac Wiencke, Charlie Lowes and Jackson Macauley. Their best players were Zac Wiencke, Nathan Stimson, Rhys Terry, Simon Quinn, Jackson Macauley and Nic McRae. The Under 18.5s Kangaroos 23.19 (157) recorded a thumping win against the Bombers 5.3 (33) by 124 points. The teenage Kangaroos laid down a marker in the opening quarter, racing away to a seven-goal lead (42 points). Another productive quarter followed for the Kangaroos as they added another five goals and a behind to their tally to take a commanding 61-point halftime lead. Refreshed after the main break, the Kangaroos were resolute in defence, restricting the Bombers to kicking just two behinds in the third quarter, while booting six goals and five behinds to take a 100-point lead into the final quarter. With the game already done and dusted, the Kangaroos improved their percentage in the last quarter, adding another 37 points, outscoring the Bombers by four goals to remain in third place on the ladder. The teenage Kangaroos’ goal kickers included Patrick Bryant (7), Nate Breust (5), Liam Drum (4), Daylen Coleman (2), Lachlan Blackwell (2) and one each for Thomas Mattner, Charlie Lowes and Thomas Francis.
