Best wishes are extended to Geoff Dahlenburg last week, on reaching 80 years. Still on the court, still enjoying a game of tennis. Speaking to Geoff he recalls- “Our farm had a tennis court and when I was young, occasionally Mum and Dad would have friends come and play at weekends. “When I was in year 8 at Temora High, I chose to play tennis for winter sport. “I have never been coached. Just natural ability. “When I left school at 16 years of age I used to ride my bike about seven kilometres to town to play tennis on Saturday afternoons at the Methodist Church tar surface courts, behind the Manse, opposite the High School oval in Polaris Street. “I used to ride my bike to the Temora town courts to play night tennis. “One night when I finished playing, my bike had a puncture. Luckily another player had a utility and gave me a lift home. “When I got my licence and a car I played winter Saturday afternoon competition tennis with people from Rannock, Mimosa and Temora. “The name of the team was Melaleucas. “We played at several courts, Dunwell, Sebastopol, Temora Golf Club and Springdale. “I played night tennis in Temora in the 1980’s. After many years, I went and played in the winter Saturday afternoon Ariah Park competition with Bectric Tennis Club. “We played Bectric, Ariah Park, Barmedman, Ardlethan and Mandamah. I still play tennis Tuesday and Friday mornings and Saturday Afternoon in winter.” Temora Tennis Club thank you Geoff for everything you do and wish many more years of playing tennis to come.
